The Jordan Institute works to implement significant climate
change solutions in New Hampshire by reducing fossil fuel use in buildings. We
believe this is the fastest, most cost-effective strategy to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions, as buildings represent 59% of all fossil fuel use in the state.
Energy efficiency measures are available immediately, at reasonable cost, and
yield tremendous gains in building performance. The urgency of our
work is inspired by Jim Hansen, NASA’s preeminent climatologist, who contends
that we must reverse the growth of fossil fuel emissions worldwide within the
next decade to avoid irreversible and catastrophic climate change.
We address this challenge with four main programs:
- Green building consultation and training
- The New Hampshire Partnership for High Performance Schools
- Oversight of relevant bills in the Legislature and key dockets at the Public
Utilities Commission
- Granite State Energy Efficiency (GSE2), a new initiative to secure private
dollars for a revolving loan fund to finance a wide range of energy efficiency
projects statewide.
In the coming months we will revamp this Web site to include case studies,
town-specific information about energy efficiency opportunities, registration
for our seminars, and other features. In the meantime, please peruse the
material here and contact us if you would like more
information.
